Initial IADiscuss your project

Law firms

AI for law firms.
Find the right evidence.

A contract, its amendments and supporting documents to review before a meeting. Initial IA helps you find relevant passages and prepare a verifiable summary from the firm’s authorised documents. The lawyer retains responsibility for analysis and advice.

For partners, associates and the people who manage the firm’s documentation.

Uses to explore

Contracts, evidence, timelines.
Search that supports the case.

Start with the firm’s contracts, case files, correspondence and approved templates. An assistant can retrieve passages and prepare summaries with references. Define access by matter and team, and keep missing or unreadable documents visible as gaps.

01

Find a clause across its versions

The situation

The client mentions an amendment, but the team is still working from the original contract.

What AI prepares

Search authorised contracts for a provision, display the passage and compare two identified versions. Keep the document, date and version available so the reader can check the context.

What you approve

The lawyer assesses the clause and the implications of the change.

02

Prepare a case timeline

The situation

Events are scattered across attachments, correspondence and case notes.

What AI prepares

Extract dates and events from the supplied documents into a table with a reference for each entry. Flag contradictions and uncertain dates for examination.

What you approve

The team checks the selected facts, their sequence and any missing evidence.

03

Reuse approved internal work

The situation

An associate is looking for an approved template among several older versions.

What AI prepares

Find a relevant template or internal note and prepare an outline. Keep approved templates separate from past client matters and apply the firm’s access rules.

What you approve

A professional reviews and adapts every document intended for a client.

Illustrative scenario

A comparison the lawyer can verify.

Illustrative example: an associate prepares a meeting using a contract and its amendments.

Fictional exampleThe documents and answer were created to illustrate how the process works.

Payment is due within 30 days of receipt of the invoice.
  2. 2

    Contract amendment

    Clause 2 · supplied excerpt

The payment period stated in clause 4 is extended to 45 days. All other provisions remain unchanged.
Prepared answerFor review

Did the payment period change in the amendment?

Change found
The stated period changes from 30 to 45 days. The amendment explicitly refers to clause 4 of the contract.[1][2]
Check the complete documents
The excerpts do not state when the change takes effect. This comparison cannot establish that date.[1][2]
Your team stays in control

Open the complete documents to check signatures, the effective date and the implications of the change before advising the client.

  1. 01

    Select the authorised case documents

  2. 02

    Compare versions and dates

  3. 03

    Prepare a summary with references

  4. 04

    Have the associate verify it

No legal conclusion or client communication without review. A document reference alone does not validate legal reasoning.

A first pilot

Start with a clearly defined search.

Choose one contract family or authorised matter, with questions the team can already answer. Use this reference set to assess citations, omissions and access controls before expanding.

What to measure on your files
  • Search time including verification
  • Accuracy of references
  • Questions correctly left unanswered

What to prepare

  1. 01

An authorised collection, with versions to keep and versions to exclude.

  2. 02

Control questions, including some that the documents cannot answer.

  3. 03

Access rules for partners, associates and external contributors.

Estimate costs and review time
At the end of the first project

A tool to try.
Evidence to decide.

An assistant limited to the selected documents, answers with references and a record of omissions or errors. The firm can compare search and verification time with its current practice.

The criterion for moving forward

Proceed if the cited passages make verification faster, without omitting clauses or allowing access to an unauthorised matter.

Practical questions

Before
you start.

01Can AI answer only from the firm’s documents?

That is a possible scope: search authorised documents and cite the retrieved passages. Test this behaviour when the documents cannot answer the question too. A fluent answer still needs checking.

02Can matters and teams be kept separate?

Access rights must apply both to search and to displaying sources, and be tested with several user profiles. Hiding a document in the interface is insufficient if its contents remain searchable.

03Do we need to replace the firm’s software?

A pilot can start from an authorised document export. Connecting existing software depends on its interfaces, permissions and file formats. Check feasibility before planning synchronisation.

Which matter takes
too long to search?

Describe a recurring search, the types of documents and who may access them. We will identify useful documents and questions for a pilot. No client file is needed for this first conversation.
